Paul Glasco of Legally Armed America Discusses 2A Issues With AOR - 2024 NRA Annual Meeting
June 10, 2024
Criminal defense attorneys Andrew Marcantel and Rachel Moss meet with Paul Glasco at the NRA Conference in Dallas, Texas. Mr. Glasco is a prominent voice in Second Amendment advocacy and creates firearm content across television and YouTube. They discuss topics such as red flag laws, the National Firearms Act, constitutional carry, and the current state of due process in America.
Key Insights from the Interview
Background
Mr. Glasco shared that he started 30-minute firearms show on Fox that now attracts a growing online audience. He explained that there is always something to cover because of the current political climate that often challenges Second Amendment rights. His dedication to daily uploads is due to his concern about the rapid pace of legislative threats.
Red Flag Laws
The attorneys argue that red flag laws, which allow the courts to seize firearms from individuals, raise concerns, especially since the person being accused is not present. Mr. Glasco contends that the erosion of due process rights, guaranteed under the Fifth and Fourteenth Amendments, is not just theoretical.
“I think red flag gun laws are the most sinister thing out there. They haven’t been in place in some of these states long enough for us to know how bad they’re going to be abused.”
-Paul Glasco
Mr. Glasco explains a shift in federal strategy, noting that instead of directly promoting red flag laws, the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act now offers funding to states to implement them. This approach emphasizes cooperative federalism, where the federal government uses financial incentives to encourage state-level policy changes and often avoids direct constitutional challenges by doing so.
Expanding Rights with Hidden Restrictions
Although constitutional laws that allow people to carry concealed weapons without a permit are praised, Mr. Glasco warns that some states immediately follow passage with restrictions. Attorney Marcantel emphasizes how these laws often create the illusion of expanded rights while hiding limitations in fine print. Mr. Glasco cites New Orleans as an example, where certain areas are designated as gun-free zones. He argues that these restrictions make targets easier for criminals.
“The criminals carried before constitutional carry, during, and after it’s gone. Nothing changes in their world… and that’s the whole danger of the thing.”

Views on Political Leadership and the NRA
Mr. Glasco provides a balanced view of President Trump’s position on gun rights. While he supports Trump and plans to vote for him again, he criticizes Trump’s “take the guns first” remark and bump stock ban, attributing them to ignorance rather than bad intentions. Glasco believes Trump is out of touch with everyday gun owners and would benefit from more input from his son, Donald Trump Jr., a strong Second Amendment supporter.
He also criticizes the NRA, once his close ally, for deviating from its mission. Glasco considers the organization ineffective, citing poor leadership and a weak stance on red flag laws. In contrast, he praises Gun Owners of America (GOA) as more principled and proactive, describing GOA as doing the real work while the NRA takes credit without achieving results.
“I used to be very closely affiliated with the NRA… and I finally about four or five years ago, I’m like, you guys are headed in the wrong direction and you’re not supporting us.”

Paul Glasco’s Book
In his book titled “How to Make a Monster and Why No One Cares,” Mr. Glasco discusses what he calls “rampage shooters,” rather than mass shooters. He argues that terminology distorts public perception and unfairly targets firearms. He explores root causes of such violence, including the prevalence of fatherless homes, experiences of bullying worsened by ineffective school policies, and the overmedication of children driven by standardized education systems. Mr. Glasco also questions media narratives and statistical databases that inflate mass shooting numbers by including unrelated incidents, such as gang or domestic violence, to support restrictive gun laws. His goal is to shift the focus from guns to the deeper societal issues behind these tragedies.
“I couldn’t tell you how many times Rachel and I have been standing in front of a judge at a sentencing hearing, asking the judge to take it easy on our client because of bad parenting.”
