Mark Walters Discusses AOR Member’s Valid Act of Self-Defense on Armed American Radio | 06-18-2025
In May 2025, a security guard by the name of Eric Salisbury was attacked while on duty at a Jewish preschool. The incident, captured on body camera, is a real-world example of how quickly a situation can escalate – and why having immediate access to qualified legal defense is essential. The Incident
The altercation began when Manuel Garza sped through a preschool parking lot, prompting Mr. Salisbury, a uniformed security officer, to approach and instruct him to slow down. After the verbal warning, Mr. Garza left the area – only to circle around and park a distance away from the parking lot. When Mr. Salisbury approached the vehicle to register the license plate, Mr. Garza got out of his car and charged him. Mark Walters describes that the charge was consistent with a “Tueller Drill”, a standard in firearms training that demonstrates how a person can close a 21-foot gap in 1.5 to 2 seconds, leaving little time to draw or respond.

Garza, athletic and aggressive, tackled Salisbury, choked him nearly to unconsciousness, and repeatedly told Mr. Salisbury to shoot him, and yelled, “You’re powerless!” Fearing for his life, Salisbury drew his firearm and fired one shot into Garza’s midsection, ending the attack.
The Legal Response
