AOR Interviews Yehuda Remer (The Pew Pew Jew) - 2024 NRA Annual Meeting

May 28, 2024

Criminal defense attorneys Andrew Marcantel and Rachel Moss interview Yehuda Remer at the NRA Conference in Dallas, Texas. Mr. Remer, widely known as “The Pew Pew Jew,” is an outspoken Second Amendment advocate and children’s book author. He discusses the intersection of humor, faith, and firearms advocacy.

Navigating the Second Amendment With Principle and Purpose

Mr. Remer, a board member of the Second Amendment Institute, stresses his commitment to protecting constitutional rights. This view aligns with a broader legal doctrine often called strict constructionism, where the Constitution is interpreted based on its original meaning. According to this perspective, the Second Amendment is absolute and not subject to reinterpretation based on modern policy preferences.

“I will not negotiate or give up one inch of the Second Amendment.”

-Yehuda Remer

Mr. Remer stresses opposition to “compromise legislation." Cases like District of Columbia v. Heller (2008) and McDonald v. City of Chicago (2010) confirmed an individual’s right to own firearms unrelated to militia service. His legal philosophy is based on these rulings, and he remains strongly against incremental restrictions that could weaken that precedent.

Turning the Tables With Satire

Instead of reacting with outrage to anti-Semitic tropes or anti-gun sentiment, Mr. Remer employs humor as both a shield and a response. He explains that this is a deliberate tactic rooted in free speech protections. Under the First Amendment, satire and parody are legally recognized forms of expression. Through items such as Jewish Space Laser Force patches, tinfoil yarmulkes, and Bullet Points, Mr. Remer turns rhetoric into marketable satire. In doing so, he fights hostility with humor and transforms slander into advocacy.

“If you’re going to say stupid things like that, I’m going to own it and make money off of your stupidity.”

-Yehuda Remer

Education as Empowerment

Mr. Remer highlights his efforts in youth firearm education. After facing resistance from his own family when he became a gun owner, Mr. Remer saw a lack of children’s books about firearm safety. To fill this gap, he wrote “Safety On,” which educates young readers about responsible gun ownership. He later published “27 Words,” a book explaining the Second Amendment in a way kids can grasp. By demystifying firearms early on, Mr. Remer promotes preventive education. His aim is to decrease negligent discharges, foster respect for gun laws, and build intergenerational understanding of constitutional rights.

“We can teach him to be the next John Wick, but we need to teach them to love the Second Amendment. Otherwise, who cares if they’re great shots?”

-Yehuda Remer

Fighting Tyranny With Advocacy and Arms

Mr. Remer emphasizes his renewed focus on self-defense within Jewish communities following the October 7, 2023, attacks in Israel. He points out that safety and survival are deeply connected to the right to bear arms. This belief supports the principle of individual sovereignty. While his efforts focus on Jewish self-protection, his advocacy also includes all “freedom-loving Americans” who back the Second Amendment.
